Have you ever been surprised watching our Bollywood flicks…..imagine the Heroine in a hot windy desert dancing & singing and still her hair will be very well in shape and not even a single strand will be out of place. As a kid I used to think that they naturally have that kind of hair which can take any odd , must be using very expensive treatments in the parlor. But today we all know the secret..that this magic is possible because of Hair Sprays, hair styling products which are a boon to many of out hair stylists & parlors
What are Hair Sprays?
They are cosmetic products which are used to keep hair fixed in one particular style or in a certain pattern. Few years back mostly hair sprays were used for styling hair but today we have many choices for hair styling products like gels, mousse, aerosol sprays, styling creams etc.
Hair sprays are generally solutions of polymers mixed with water/ alcohol. When the solution is sprayed on hair the polymers covers the hair strands, and when the water/alcohol evaporates leaving behind polymer, creates a stiff bond which holds the hair at one place. The size of the polymers differs in different hair sprays depending on their type & usage.
Today we have a choice of natural/ organic hair sprays available in market which are preferred over chemical ones. They use natural ingredients like Aloe Vera , Flower Extracts, henna etc which enhances the hair look without causing much damage to hair.

Nivea Styling Spray (Extra Strong) Review
I got introduced to hair sprays when I was in Europe this summer. Europe as we all know is very windy all year round and even though I used to tie my hair nicely it would still be a big mess once I step out. I also noticed that other female’s hair would be very well groomed without a single strand out of place. I just couldn’t understand what was wrong with my hair unless my friend told me to use hair sprays & I saw all the supermarkets & cosmetics chains were flooded with these hair sprays in different brands.
To start with I picked this styling spray from Nivea (as I was aware of the brand) which gives a strong hold on your hair. Although I wanted a medium hold one but usually they are not available keeping their weather constraints in mind. Initially I was not very comfortable using this. Before styling my hair the spray would get dried on my hair making it really stiff but slowly I got used to it.
Nivea styling spray comes in a classy metallic silver spray can with a plastic cap nozzle to spray the product on your hair. I got it for 3 Euros for 250 ml .The one which I am having says Vitamin Fix System (rest of the description is in Dutch which I couldn’t understand). It does not contains Parabens which was a surprise to me when I read the ingredients.
Initially I used to tie my hair in a pony & spray this…Ta da not even a single strand of my hair dared to move… Although my hair used to feel very stiff and I had to wash my hair every single time I used this to take away the product. I won’t recommend strong hold hair sprays to be used when you want to leave your hair. Better to go for light hold or medium ones as they won’t make hair feel stiff and are very light on hair compared to extra strong ones.
All together I found this product pretty useful for weather conditions like Europe where you don’t have a choice other than to use them .But still I won’t prefer regular use of these sprays as in long run they effect the health of your hair badly. Having said that, would really want to test some organic sprays which claim to be completely natural, contains no harmful chemicals and are loaded with hair friendly ingredients.
Have you used any hair sprays?
