Today kick starting our weekly theme feature, we will look at the first NARS product of the week- their Smudge Proof eye shadow base. Most of the products which I will be reviewing this week are a part of their exclusive kits.
A polymer and mineral-powder blend establishes a firm grip on color ensuring hours and hours of gorgeous wear. Fortified with a special deep-sea extract and an antioxidant rice extract, the Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base dries on contact and keeps the delicate eyelid smooth and prepared for color application.
- Extends the wear of eyeshadow, eyeliner and eyebrow pencil
- Maximizes color intensity
- Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested. Fragrance free
I have sample size tube with me but there’s no difference in the packaging from the original size. The eye shadow base comes in an opaque white coloured tube with matte black coloured lid which contains the sponge tip applicator. Being opaque one cannot see the amount of product used or left.
The primer is in milky white colour with surprisingly thin consistency. It gets blended into skin invisibly in no time into a complete matte finish. It is very light textured & barely feels on the lids. However it is not hydrating as creamy primers, so females with dry lids like me make sure to hydrate them properly before the primer application. I have this habit of patting on my lids after the application of eye shadow base to get it blended into the lids but with this one it’s not the case. It instantly forms a smudge proof invisible layer on lids making them ready for the eye shadow application.
This primer is god sent for me during these sweaty summers where my lids have become somewhat oily. It keeps the eye shadows intact in their place without any fading or smudging & maintains the vibrancy of the shades throughout the wear time. When I say wear time read 16-18 freaking hours which I have tested with this product. Although the sample tube gave me around 5 uses but I made use of every application for testing its potential & 18 hours was the longest time period till when I didn’t purposely removed my eye makeup which was still very much intact & I had to use olive oil to get it removed. This is surely a strict power packed product which dictates terms to your eye shadows to take out the best possible performance.
I never had creasing issues due to my otherwise very dry lids & used get a complete day wear from the somewhat less pigmented shades too. But now that I am facing this oily lids concern, with my NYX base I get a wear time of about 6-7 hours which is fine for me as I hardly wear makeup beyond that. But for longer wear this is what I always turn too. I have already ordered a full size tube for me which I will be receiving very soon!
The only flaw I can point out is the inconvenience with the packaging. The applicator always looks deprived of product & I have to dip in & out so many times to get some product onto it. May be because of the thin consistency. The opaque packaging doesn’t allow seeing the left unused product at the very bottom of the tube.

- The packaging is somewhat inconvenient for me. Applicator needs to be dipped in & out few times to get some product onto it.

- Availability issues.
- Expensive .
NARS Pro-Prime Smudge proof base keeps eye shadows intact & maintains the shades intensity equally for 18 hours without any smudging & creasing which is phenomenal. It keeps the lids oil free & overall eye makeup intact. It is light textured & thinner in consistency& settles down on lids as matte finish. I find the applicator a bit inconvenient for use but that’s a personal choice. It comes with a heavy price tag but worth every penny you spend on it. Highly Recommended for Oily Lids.
