NARS Shimmer Eyeshadow FATHOM comes in traditional sleek NARS classy black case packaging with mirror. The complete opaque packaging makes you to rely on back label for the shade identification.
Fathom is a light pale baby pink shade with silver shimmer. The silver shimmer looks very pronounced in the pan but gets scattered evenly on the lids without going OTT. Infact you have to dig your eyes to see the shimmer once the shade is on lids. The shimmer gives a slight sparkling to the eyes although not constantly but depending upon the changing light intensity. The shade is not something very glittery which will make your eyes look blingy. On my skin tone it looks sheer neutral shade with silver flecks. The pink hue comes out well on fairer tones. This is a shade to go for when you just want a gentle wash of colour on your lids yet looks like no eyeshadow applied kind of finish. I use this as highlighter being very sheer & neutral, also gives a slight sparking touch on the brow bone. This shade is for females don’t like much colour on their lids & just a slight wash with little sparkling effect. It sounds like a much matured shade, very elegant, gentle & soft.
The texture & pigmentation are disappointing here. The shade looks very dry & chalky in the pan itself. The chalkiness is quite obvious once you swipe the brush & see some loose powder scattered in the pan. The pigmentation is also not that great at least in terms of what you expect from a brand like NARS! It takes bare minimum 2-3 swipes for me to get some colour & the sparkles on my lid. The dryness of the shade makes it difficult for blending out with other shades. It lacks that rich silky texture which feels like applying a wet creamy eye shadow as with some MAC or Inglot one’s. There’s a tad bit of fallout while application & you can see some very few silver flecks on under your eyes or on cheeks. It is very minimal & can be controlled if applied with wet brush.
It stays for 5-6 hours on my lids without a primer & beyond 8 hours with a primer. It doesn’t crease or fade much on my dry lids & sits comfortably if layered. But it makes my eyes looks older & dull if used alone with plain black eyeliner hence prefer to use it as a highlighter or with a coloured liner to get some pop of colour on eyes. It is not any of those dramatic effect shades as described by NARS but more of a highlighting one.
And here I have used this on my entire lid & brow bone along with some gold contouring & navy blue liner. It barely shows up on my lids.
- Classy velvety sleek packaging.
- The silver flecks give nice sparkling effect on eyes without being too glittery.
- Good wear time.
- Fathom makes a good highlighting shade with sparkling silver flecks.
- The shade FATHOM makes my eyes looks dull & older.
- The pigmentation & texture is not that great.
- The shade looks very dry & chalky which makes it difficult to blend.
- There’s a tad bit of fall out which is barely noticeable & can be controlled if used with a wet brush.
Not a great start with my first NARS Eye shadow. Lacks good pigmentation & texture. Shade makes my eyes look dull. The chalkiness makes it difficult to work with the shade. However on my skin tone it makes a good highlighting shade & gives a good wear time with some layering. Overall for the price this is not what I was expecting & especially with a NARS product. The Brand matters you know!
