A kohl pencil that has all the intensity and colour-power of ultra-soft carbon. Provides deep, fully opaque coverage and an intense, smoked finish with duo-chrome pearl. Versatile in application: blend or smudge.
I showed you the complete range swatches for MAC Hey Sailor collection. Today I will be reviewing powerpoint eye pencil in Blue stripe from the collection. You can check out the other shades of powerpoint eye pencils from the range HERE.
MAC powerpoint eye pencils are water proof, long wearing with intense pigmentation & rich colour pay off. Sadly Hey Sailor! Collection diluted the overall product quality in my opinion. While swatching in the store I could see them applying unevenly on my hand. I had to go back & forth certain times to get the actual colour pay off evenly. A single swipe results in uneven & weakened colour (comes out not as intense as actual shade). There’s a slight waxiness in the texture of these pencils but they glide smoothly without any slip & breakage on lids. However they weared on my lids intact till taken out with a good remover. The miss of a primer also don’t hamper the wear time of these eye pencils & stay put intact on my lids without even a slight fade till removed. I have tested Blue Stripe till 10 hours & it was very much in place without any alterations at all. These are perfectly safe for waterline too & can be used as a kohl. They never sting my eyes or give any kind of discomfort. The only complaint being the staying power on waterline as I have watery eyes (not to blame the product here) but still this manage to flare upto 3-4 hours with fading incourse.
As this is a limited edition collection, the packaging is pretty different from regular range eye pencils with blue and white striped wooden sharpen able pencil. There’s a lot of product wastage during sharpening because of the creamier texture.
Shade: Blue Stripe
Blue Stripe is a dark navy blue shade with subtle purple-blue shimmers which are barely detectable in day light but catches up beautifully in artificial strong lights. The shade itself is just wow & looks very rich however the colour pay off is a disappointment & has to be layered for an even & actual colour on lids. This is not a very versatile shade but if you want to have few pencils from this collection I would recommend Blue Stripe & Handforged (gold with slight chunkier shimmer). Emerald Sea on the other hand is weaker in pigmentation compared to the later ones. My love for blues just forced me to have this. Generally I layer my eye pencils for intensity, so here I really never mind layering but the uneven pay off is slightly annoying as I need to dig in my eyes on lids to see the evenness. This would work as a good base for navy blue eyeshadows.
Overall as mentioned if you are a die heart blue lover & want to have something from the collection go for this pencil and also check out the eyeshadow in Nautical Navy & Loose pigment in Naval Blue. All three complement each other nicely.
Both swatches are layered.
- Nice attractive packaging.
- Smooth & creamy texture.
- Waterproof & smudge proof,
- Long wearing.
- Safe to be used on waterline without any discomforts.
- These powerpoint pencils from MAC are eyeliner, eyeshadow base & kohl rolled into one.
- The colour pay off could have been better. It does not keep pace with the regular range powerpoint pencils.
- Does not apply evenly. One has to layer it to get an even & intense colour on lids.
- The waxiness in the texture affects the colour payoff of the pencil.
The MAC Hey Sailor! Powerpoint pencils collection fails to keep the pace in overall quality terms with regular line ones. The slight waxiness in the texture of these pencils results in uneven application & weak colour pay off. Multiple swipes are required to get the even & actual shade on lids. But they do flare at par in terms of longevity & stay put on lids till removed. Blue Stripe is a gorgeous dark navy blue shade with subtle purple-blue shimmers. If you love blues, this is worth checking out.
