A smoky look available in 5 deep and intense shades achievable in 2 simple steps:
1) Outline the eye with the pencil
2) Smudge with the brush
Its soft, easy-to-blend tip glides along the lashline for an intense outline in one stroke. Its ultra soft brush made of natural bristles perfectly smudges the formula. The result: a subtle but incredibly sexy smoky look in just 2 steps!
And it’s good for my eyes:
– High tolerance formula
– Tested on sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
– Enriched with natural waxes and vitamins E & C*.
Previously I had reviewed shade Intense Black from this range.
Bourjois Effet Smoky pencils are cult favourites of many because of their smooth & creamier texture, rich pigmentation & cheesy shades (though not very versatile but the rich colour pay off makes all the shades looks superb!). At one end where they deliver high class results brings a cloud of disappointment with the poor wear time on other end. The shades barely stay put on lids for 2-3 hours & starts fading. When used with primer they stay around 5-6 hours on my lids which is not bad but awakes second thought on these pencils where we get much better committed results for quite less/same price in brands like Faces or Colorbar.
These comes in wooden sharpen able pencil form with smudger brush on the other end of the pencil. The pencils & the cap are in the same shade of the liner making it very convenient to locate the shades. The smudger has a plastic cap on the other end. The bristles of the brush are soft but it lacks that stiffness which holds the brush while working on eyeshadows. The brush just keeps bending down as soon as touched on the lids making it difficult to work with. The uber creamier texture of these pencils makes them smudge easily for smoky effect but they are not waterproof & gets wiped off easily or give you black tears if comes in contact with water. They are perfectly safe to be used on waterline but if you have watery eyes, will budge badly giving you racoon eyes & also fades in no time. Overall these pencils are an easy to go option for a quick smudge able looks, sadly the formula doesn’t hold for long on eyes. Using a primer makes them stay longer but nothing to rectify the retouches required.
Bourjois Effet Smoky Pencils are available in 8 matte shades (Smoked Brown, Smoked Purple, Deep Green, Grey Shadow, Intense Black, Ultra Black, Sand Rose & Wave Blue) & 3 sparkling shades (Sparkling Granite, Sparkling Navy & Sparkling Mocha). The sparkling shades have sparkling wooden body & caps indicating the glittery variants. Today I will be reviewing all the three sparkling shades from the range. Like the name they have tiny sparkles blended with the shades to add some dazzle on the eyes. The presence of shimmers doesn’t make any difference to the creamy texture & are barely felt but very much visible on lids. The shimmers are very well blended into the shades & don’t travel on lids post application.
Shade: Sparkling Granite
It’s a beautiful Navy Blue shade with greyish tones & silver chunks. The shade is very well balanced without being overly bright but enough depth of colour making it very wearble. The silver shimmer doesn’t makes the eyes very blingy & gets evenly dispersed on lids along with the colour making overall effect look very natural.
Shade: Sparkling Navy
A gorgeous Purple with purple shimmers which gives a sheeny finish rather than looking sparkling. The shimmers are so very blended with the shade which reflects high purple tones in artificial lights. Its not a very vivid purple but has enough intensity with nice reflecting purple tones.
Shade: Sparkling Mocha
A Deep Brown with golden shimmers. Easily dupable, also available in huge number of brands across. If you love wearing browns check this one out.
- Very soft & creamy texture which easy to smudge or blend.
- Highly pigmented shades.
- Comes with a smudger which is of good quality.
- Doesn’t irritate eyes & perfectly safe to be used on waterline.
- Good for quick smoky eye look.
- Got nice variations of shade from mattes to shimmery ones.
- Little overpriced.
- Staying power is not good.
- Smudger bristles are very soft which doesn’t help much to blend the shade.
- Not waterproof.
The sparkling variants are not any different to the regular Smoky Effet ones. They have creamy texture, rich pigmentation & don’t flare for long on the lids. The shimmers don’t affect the texture here & are well integrated into the shades. The sparkles hues in the shade does give them a fresh look & also to eyes. The shades are perfectly balanced with enough depth & controlled glaze. Using a primer makes them wear slightly better but are not waterproof/ smudge proof & one has to be careful not to disturb them once on your lids. These pencils have a smudgy nature & are not meant for females looking for never budging long wear liners.
