Lotus Herbals recently launched their 100% vegetarian & preservative free PureStay makeup range & today I am going to review a nice Deep Pink lipstick from the collection.
Starting off with the packaging, I must say Lotus have nailed it this time making you feel holding a luxury in your hand , a soft pearly pink case with brilliant finish enclosed in a satin baby pink pouch. Feels very femine & girly. The whole combination is enclosed again in a soft satiny pink cardboard box along with a product range information leaflet. There are no ingredients details mentioned, provided it’s the first thing I would love to see for a product claiming 100% vegetarian & preservative free! Also the website is not updated for the new launch.
Texture wise they are creamy & soft but not very buttery. The lipstick is creamy enough to glide smoothly without any tugs depositing the colour evenly on lips but certainly lacks that high comfort moisturisation which we get from the buttery textured lip formulas. Though it’s not drying on my lips but at the same time not very moisturising too. Keeps the hydration locked for few hours after which I feel the urge of a moisturising medium. Also it tends to flake the lips & settle down into fine lines if not layered with a lip balm after few hours of wear. A single lip balm layer brings back that semi dewey finish of the lipstick & calm down the flakes into an even looking layer. I am not much fond of the semi glossy finish of the lipstick which soon appears to be matte as it wears on. Also the bullet is not very application friendly with much flat tip unlike the common slanted ones. It deposits lot of colour in the mouth corners & does not contour the lips as good as the slanted tip. Staying power & pigmentation again is debatable here as I have tried only a single shade from the collection which is highly pigmented & stays well beyond 4-5 hours on me leaving behind a strong tint.
Rose Mary is a nice Deep Pink shade which will go well with most of the complexions without much effort. It is one of those shades which gives a much needed lift to your face making it look naturally fresh. It’s not a unique shade but with limited swatch availability (range is not launched in south yet!) this was a safe bet. As mentioned before, the shade scores full in pigmentation & longevity but somehow fails to deliver much to my expectations in terms of texture & finish.
- Luxurious & femine packaging.
- Soft & creamy texture which applies smoothly without any tugs or pulls.
- Highly pigmented. Goes completely opaque in single pass.
- Long wearing descending into a strong tint.
- A nice shade flattering across skintones.
- The finish is semi glossy which gets completely matte after an hour or so which looks kind of unflattering on my dry lips.
- Makes lips dry & flaky after few hours of wear requiring a moisturising medium. Also formula tends to get into fine lines following the same.
- The missing ingredients list is a major drawback of product when it gives high claims like 100 % vegetarian & preservatives free.
- Pricey for the result it delivers.
The product does hold consumers successfully with its high end luxurious packaging but again the formula is something with which one needs to compromise if got it looking at the attractive packaging. It lacks the very basic good hydration part & the finish (here I am talking in terms of my dry lips, there might be females who prefer matte finishes & no offense to them). Scores full in pigmentation & longevity. And finally the hidden Ingredients…I wish Lotus Herbals reveal them soon….
