These wet stains created a lot of buzz around blog sphere when launched being considered as close dupes of famous YSL Glossy Stains! & the reason for me to pick up few shades to try out. I have never tried YSL version so not sure how compatible both the formulas are but this version of L’Oreal definitely didn’t impressed me much. Read on for further details…
They come in a glossy gold tube packaging with a coloured rim of the respective shade making it easy to locate shades. The applicator is leaf shaped giving easy access for steady & fast application & contouring around the corners of the lips.
They got a thin gel textured formula which feels very barely there & liquidy post application. It sets very fast with a nice healthy sheen contrary to high shine as described by the brand. However the formula does not carry off well on my dry lips & I could feel my lips craving for moisture after 1-2 hours of wear. Wearing a lip balm underneath makes the application of this stain quite difficult causing the formula to slip out of the lip line & some unevenness in the finish. The best way is to layer up a moisturizing gloss on the top & I would highly suggest this as these stains tends to get uneven & patchy when starting to fade not presenting a pretty sight on lips. And when we say stain, yes they acquire those high quality staining properties leaving a strong tint (depending upon the pigmentation of the shade) while fading & this is the point where they tend to get patchy. They stain so heavily that when I swatched Coral Tattoo on my hand could see mild coral tint left behind on my wrist while taking out with a moisturizer in 5 mins! They are definitely long wearing & one need a good makeup remover to get the stubborn stain out of lips completely. Such formulas usually are very unforgiving on my dry & flaky lips & same applies here if I don’t top them regularly with a gloss. Well groomed lips are the mantra to wear such formulas with proper exfoliation & moisturization. There’s absolutely no stickiness or gloopiness experienced in the formula, however when I touch my lips to a coffee mug or water glass could feel slight stickiness ( not something major). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade from the range. If need to be consolidated then the lighter & natural shades are quite sheer & needs good build up for pigmented lips while the deeper shades performs better though sheerer than the tub look, but covers up better. These are long wearing & lips never look devoid of colour. Again the wear time varies from shade to shade. I am not much fond of the fragrance of these stains which smells like a wine though subdued which does not bother much.
Coral Tattoo is a deep red toned orange. The pigmentation is superb giving a full coverage to my moderately pigmented lips in two swipes. It goes slightly translucent with single brush & pack up completely with second. It stays for good 6 hours on me before starting to subside into a stain & yes I do need that regular gloss topping to keep the hydration & prevent formula from getting uneven & patchy. The shade is very much similar to Colorbar true gloss lip gloss Nectar Orange.
- Easy to locate & attractive packaging.
- Smooth light weight gel texture.
- No stickiness or gloopiness in the formula.
- Gives a healthy sheen to lips.
- Long Wearing.
- The formula tends to dry lips in short span of time & a regular moisturization topping is required.
- The shade gets patchy & uneven highlighting every minor flaw while fading or if not topped regularly.
- No ample hydration as claimed by the brand.
- I am not fond of the understated wine fragrance much.
The formula won’t be appreciated much if you have uber dry lips like mine or need efforts to make it behave! Rest its light weight, non sticky, long wearing & pigmented (this particular shade). The formula tends to lose way with the progress in wear time but little adjustments like a good moisturizing topping will take care. It stains heavily & needs a good oil based remover to wipe off completely.
