MAC translate RETRO as Muted Peachy-Pinky Brown. Well I agree to that half as it has got fair amount of red in it and on my NC42 skintone it completely skips out those peachy pinky tones! For me it’s a superb everyday wear neutral with enough colour to it and not Blanding you down with dominating brown! It’s a gorgeous Reddish Brown with a vintage touch to it. I can see this shade been rocked by skintones across. If you are someone who stay sheer of neutrals or precisely browns, this is something to look out for which has got just right amount of colour with an earthy touch.
It’s a Satin finish lipstick which means definitely more moisturizing than matte ones with a slight sheeny quality to them & a creamy soft touch. I love the fact the sheen not very eye catching with the formula & good enough for everyday wear. It gives a semi matte finish. Though the formula is not very dry lips friendly but topping a clear gloss takes care of the issue. It does gets settled into fine lines of my lips after few hours of wear making them uncomfortable & stretchy also highlighting the dry flakes, so make sure to prep your lips properly especially if you have dryness issues. It excels extremely well in pigmentation & wear! It packs a good dose of colour in a single go going completely opaque. One of the best one for highly pigmented lips. It stays for good 5-6 hours on me before descending down to a stain which keeps itself occupied on lips till removed. But it makes lips extremely dry on reaching the staining threshold & I need to keep moisturizing my lips at regular intervals.
The packaging is same regular MAC black bullet twist up case. Overall the MAC Satin finish formula is not so dry lips friendly but given that the shade is pretty, I don’t mind moisturizing in regular intervals.
- Semi Matte finish with slight sheen, perfect for daily wear.
- Soft & creamy texture.
- Highly pigmented.
- Goes completely opaque in a single go.
- Long wearing (read almost whole day).
- Gorgeous neutral for everyday wear
- Universally flattering.
- The formula is drying after few hours of wear making lips all dry & flaky & gets settles down into fine lines. So make sure to apply this on well-groomed lips..
Overall the MAC Satin finish formula is not so dry lips friendly but given that the shade is pretty, I don’t mind moisturizing in regular intervals. Retro is a fabulous neutral which has got just right amount of colour with an earthy touch.
